A statue restored

It's November.  NoBloPoMo calls for some creative scripting.  I don't have a cat, but I do have a camera and legs to carry me to various parts of the city.  Who knows what subjects will appear as I scurry to find material for November.

Yesterday, as I walked around Como Park, I rediscovered the restoration project of a very old statue, a memento of long ago when there were a lot more Germans in town who were proud of their native son and playwright/philosopher Friedrich Schiller (1759-1805).

The statue of Friedrich Schiller has stood on Como park land since 1907. The restoration project appears to be complete and a re-dedication is scheduled for 2013.

This is what the statue looked like before its restoration began.  I took this photo in June of 2011.   Since then the patina has been removed and the statue looks a lot healthier now in November, 2012.

Here's the sign that announces the restoration project and some info about Schiller.  The back of the statue can be seen in the background.

And I played some tennis today at Fort Snelling's Fred Wells Tennis Center. It was again too cold for outdoors tennis ball smacking. There is still some hope for a few days of heat in November before we dive into winter. But not much.

Very creative blogging. The statue looks much improved -- positively gleams.

(I'm not familiar with Schiller, but then he's not Dutch.) I like idea of statues as a subject matter -- I think I might be able to find one or two this month. If it doesn't snow.

Somewhere in the 50s still seems probable, the problem is that it may occur after the giant snow storm.
