Lonely Lucky Lindy

The statue of Charles Lindbergh that sits on the Minnesota Capitol lawn doesn't have much company these days. The state has been shut down for six days and the state employees who normally work around this area are home "on furlough." The legislators who have participated in the stand-off with the governor are not in session, and apparently won't be for some time - until a compromise agreement is reached.

So far my life seems to be unaffected by the government hard freeze, except that the state employees that normally play tennis with us are now available much more of the time. And, of course, I spend some time chewing over the situation with the guys before we play tennis. And we did play some tennis again this afternoon at Marie courts. We had eight guys, including the one state employee and several retirees. We drew partners and played a couple of sets of doubles in 88 degree weather, then called it good enough. It was a typical July day in Minnesota.

I heard from PP and she is safely back in Janesville. Unky Herb is caught in airlines purgatory. His plane back from Albuquerque was delayed and he missed a connecting flight in Denver where he will spend the night.
